February 24, 2018 - November 30, -0001 The Statue of St. Francis & St. Anthony
The Statue of St. Francis and St. Anthony is located in the Shrine Courtyard near the Chapel.

As if coming from inside the Shrine, St. Anthony stands on the right greeting St. Francis. St. Anthony holds the Bible in which he has met the Lord by studying and praying over the Word of God. As he greets St. Anthony, St. Francis stands on the left as if coming from the fields where he has met the Lord by finding joy and praying to God in the wonders of His creation. St. Francis, the mystic, raises his hand to bless St. Anthony, the scholar.

As St. Francis and St. Anthony embrace, they remind us that we find God with both our hearts and our heads. Our love for God, expressed in prayer, inspires us to know more about the God we love. And study of our faith moves us to deeper love of the God we know. As Pope St. John Paul II said, "Faith and reason are like two wings on which the human spirit rises."

Our Liturgies, devotions, retreats, and programs at the Shrine of St. Anthony take their inspiration from these two great saints who blended love and knowledge of the Lord. May the example and the prayers of St. Francis and St. Anthony help us to love the God we know and know the God we love.

To my Bishop, Friar Anthony. It pleases me that you should teach sacred science to the friars provided that it does not extinguish the spirit of prayer and devotion. -St. Francis of Assisi

If you find anything edifying, consoling or well presented in what I have done, give all praise and honor to God. -St. Anthony of Padua
