Eucharistic Adoration on Thursdays
All are welcome to spend time with the Lord during Eucharistic Adoration each Thursday from after the noon Mass until 5:30pm.

Thursday is traditionally the Eucharistic Day in the Catholic Church as it is the day our Lord gave us His Body and Blood at the Last Supper. It is also the day the friars and postulants at St. Joseph Cupertino Friary, of which the Shrine of St. Anthony is part, celebrate a holy hour. In addition, all the friars of the St. Anthony Province (all of the East Coast) celebrate a holy hour for vocations on the third Thursday of each month. The friars are encouraged to invite our brothers and sisters who come to their ministries to participate in this prayerful experience.

The Blessed Sacrament will be exposed following the noon Mass. There will be time for quiet adoration until 4:30pm. At that time, the friars and all present will begin their evening prayers, which include the Liturgy of the Hours (psalms), quiet time, Scripture reading, intercessory prayer, and Benediction.

All are welcome....

Br. Lawrence's Reflections on the Book of Jonah
Mark your calendar for Br. Lawrence's Reflections on the Book of Jonah, a four week series meeting on Wednesday evenings from 7:00-8:30pm. in the Shrine Library. The series started on Wednesday January 14th.

Wednesday January 28th
Wednesday February 4th

There is no charge for this book study. You are welcome to bring your Bible.

"I have very much been fascinated by the unique story of Jonah as found in the Old Testament. Over the years I have read and reread the story, read dozens of books on the text, and thought about it quite often. I find it to be a most interesting Old Testament text, but I especially am interested in what it has to say to us in its uniqueness (for there is nary a book like it in the rest of the Scriptures.) I have chosen four of my eleven reflections that I have written to present a good overview of things that I think are most important to see and consider. Although one need not come to all four talks attendance at each will further enhance the understanding of what follows. I also know that the book is oftentimes treated as a children's book, but what I have to say in these talks would not make sense to those younger than later high school years. I am looking forward to seeing you on January 14th." Br. Lawrence.

The Cardinal Virtues...a Lenten series
Mark your calendar for Br. Lawrence's series on "The Four Cardinal Virtues" beginning Ash Wednesday, February 18th from 7:00-8:30pm. and continuing each Wednesday evening during Lent.

The six weeks of Wednesdays are as follows:
Wednesday February 18th What is virtue?
Wednesday February 25th What are the four Cardinal Virtues?
Wednesday March 4th The virtue of Prudence
Wednesday March 11th The virtue of Justice
Wednesday March 18th The virtue of Fortitude
Wednesday March 25th The virtue of Temperance

"My expectation is to give a general overview of each talk and then go into some specifics regarding the week's topics. The talks will be mostly given a religious emphasis with some philosophical background where it is needed. There is no need to have come prepared through your own readings or have any prerequisite knowledge. I shall be going from the very ground floor and progress accordingly keeping the talks within an area for one who has little or no knowledge of cardinal virtues. I very much believe that knowing the virtues is important for living a life that is free of moral relativism. To be a virtuous person means to live according to the virtues and not merely to do so-called virtuous acts at times, therefore it is very important to know the virtues. That leaves me looking forward to presenting these virtues to you and looking forward to Lent 2016 when I hope to finish the virtues with the three theological virtues." Br. Lawrence

So I think that the prudent thing to do is to join us for these most important presentations.

For further information or to register for the series please contact the Shrine office at 410-531-2800 or info@shrineofstanthony.org. There is no charge for the series although free will offerings are accepted....

Asparagus spears with lemon zest
Honey Cake, coffee, and tea

We gather for this sacred celebration in the presence of loved ones and friends with the signs of festive rejoicing around us. Together with the whole house of Israel, both young and old are linking the past with the future; we respond in faith to God's call to service; we gather here to observe the Passover.

The central theme of the Passover is redemption. For us, Passover means not only the physical exodus from Egypt, but our spiritual passing over from the bondage of sin as well. We are asked to bear witness to God's redeeming action in the past, to act in conformity with His will in the present, and to renew our hope in future redemption.
